Canopy & Pillars

A canopy memorial is one of the most distinguished and architecturally significant forms of tribute available. Drawing on centuries of funerary tradition — from the great canopied tombs of medieval churches to the grand Victorian cemetery monuments of the North East — a canopy memorial creates a true place of remembrance: a sheltered, defined space that honours the person buried beneath it.

At Harbour Memorials, we design and craft canopy and pillar memorials in high-quality polished and honed granite, available in a full range of colours. These are substantial structures — typically standing between 1.5 and 2.5 metres in height — and every commission is approached as an individual architectural project, designed to suit the grave position, the cemetery setting, and the wishes of the family.

Canopy and pillar memorials are generally only permitted in traditional grave sections, and most cemeteries require prior approval for memorials above a certain height or footprint. We will check the regulations at your chosen cemetery, liaise with the bereavement services department, and obtain all necessary permits before any work begins.

Due to their size and structural complexity, canopy memorials require substantial concrete foundations and careful installation. Our experienced installation team works to the full NAMM Code of Working Practice, and every memorial we install is independently checked for stability before we leave the site.
