Creating an Enduring Memorial: Your Consultation Process
When you lose someone close to you, the thought of choosing a permanent monument can
Northumberland is one of the most beautiful and historically rich counties in England, and its cemeteries and churchyards reflect that heritage. At Harbour Memorials, we are proud to serve families across the whole of Northumberland — from the market towns of Hexham and Morpeth to the coastal communities of Alnmouth and Seahouses, and as far north as Berwick-upon-Tweed.
We are fully familiar with the regulations governing memorial installations across Northumberland County Council cemeteries, and we work with the council’s bereavement services team on a regular basis. We handle every permit application on your behalf, ensuring that your memorial is approved and installed without complication.
Northumberland’s varied landscape and heritage means that families here often choose memorials that reflect the character of the county — natural stone, slate, and traditional forms sit particularly well in the region’s churchyards and rural cemeteries. We offer the full range of stone types and styles, and we are always happy to discuss what would work best in a particular setting.
We travel throughout Northumberland for consultations and installations. There is no call-out charge for visits within our service area, and our initial consultation is always free and without obligation.
A traditional Welsh slate headstone with a deeply incised hand-cut inscription, chosen by the family to reflect the rural character of the area. Permit obtained from Northumberland County Council.
A full-size polished black granite headstone featuring a laser-engraved photographic portrait alongside the inscription. The family also chose a matching granite vase.
A full granite kerb set with white marble chippings, installed to the cemetery's current regulations. The headstone was an existing memorial to which we added a second inscription.
A Victorian sandstone headstone that had become structurally unsafe was carefully re-fixed and cleaned. The family requested that the original character of the stone be preserved.
We work in Northumberland regularly and know the area, its cemeteries, and its communities well.
Northumberland stretches from the Tyne Valley in the south to the Scottish border in the north, taking in market towns, coastal villages, moorland, and the Cheviot Hills. Its cemeteries and churchyards are equally varied, and we are experienced in working across all of them.
